NEAR REAL TIME VOLCANO ASHES MONITORING

About a week ago, the Chilean volcano Chaiten began to erupt. From that time until today the situation has worsened. The eruptions (as well as seismic activity) has increased in frequency and intensity, which has led the authorities to evacuate all people within a radius of 50 kilometres. Moreover, as we can see in this satellite image, the ashes launched by the volcano has moved trough hundreds of kilometers in the southern sector of the continent (especially Argentina), which could further aggravate the sitación caused by this fhenomena, taking in mind that the prevailing winds at this time of year has a north-south component, which could transladar its harmful effects to very populous cities, in addition to the damage caused to persons and property (especially in the agricultural sector). The recent eruptions of violence to high smoke and ash to a height of 30km, deep into the stratosphere.
